Mountain Street Solo Act 4: Extreme navigation skills

Conditions are better! Yay! Surge is down a notch and visibility improved from dead crappy to tolerable. Too bad the big surf is coming...
So that was the last of my mid-week dives at Mountain. Tomorrow, surf's supposed to be 8-10ft and 13ft (15ft at the Wedge!) by Friday, so I guess I'll either switch to boogie boarding or just go to Newport and shoot a couple of surfers (with a camera, of course).
The first dive was almost a complete waste of time. It started with a nice bat ray that I managed to tape for about 7 seconds, the middle was filled with sand as I got lost and did most of the dive looking for the outer reef and finding only... sand. Extreme nav skills... The end was saved by a 4ft leopard shark that did not come back for a photo shoot. I have a theory that leopard sharks are like us, when the viz is awful and the surge makes you feel like you're in a washmachine, they just take off. Maybe they're in Mexico, Hawaii or Grand Cayman. Or maybe not. It's just a theory after all.
The second dive was slightly better. I found the outer (3rd) reef, a couple of giant sheep crabs, a nice eel and a couple of bat rays. Two I was able to approach and shoot. As the sun came up finally, I spent what was left of my air shooting sunbursts. I almost surfaced in the wrong cove, confirming the level of my navigation skills again.
Not a fantastic day underwater, but better than at my desk anyway.
